Birds at Night

Read it instead

Last Saturday night, birds flew over New England by the millions.

At peak, they filled the night sky.

More birds were in the air than there are people in New England.

The average bird flew about 2,600 feet up. Higher than any building in Boston.

By dawn, they had landed in woods, parks, and yards.

Big bird nights happen after a cold front. North winds push birds south.

Listen after dark.

After the next cold front, step outside after dark and listen. Then point binoculars at the moon. You might see them fly across it.

Data: BirdCast radar (Cornell Lab) and the 2020 Census. Bird positions are illustrative.
